Lawrence County A.B.A.T.E. News and Highlights

Thoughts From Our President - Tim

Did everybody survive Hazen and Thunder In The Cascades? I hope those of you who did will be at Thunder In The Burg on 7/10. We’ve all been working hard to put on a biker event that you can bring the kids to. Live music will be on stage from noon till 9:00 p.m. Food, vendors, and the dunking booth will be available all day, but get there early to sign up for the corn hole tournament. It starts at 4:00 p.m. And don’t forget, admission is free. We also put together a program containing the day’s activities, some information about A.B.A.T.E., and some ads from our local biker friendly businesses. So please support them as they support us. The Town & Country Bar and Grill has its Gold Star Certificate. They have a bike night on Tuesdays with food and drink specials. They also have bands on Saturday nights. Stop by and check them out. The Johnson Club has upped its Gold Star to Platinum. This is where we have our meetings and they always treat us great. Norm’s kitchen has good food and the Club has special fun events and entertainment throughout the year. We thank both of these businesses for their support. The weekend of 8/7 is Clarion County’s 360 Poker Run. This is the event they are asking us and the other Chapters in District II to attend. You can camp on Friday and Saturday nights or ride in and out in one day. It will be a day of riding through some of the best countryside PA has to offer. You get a patch for entering and I’m sure they have an evening of fun planned when the run is over. For more information come to a meeting or give Denny Taylor a call at 814-764-3218. Hope to see you there.

Ride On, Tim

Johnson Club Now A Platinum Supporter

We want to thank the Johnson Club for increasing their membership from a Gold Star to a Platinum Supporter. We really appreciate their support and the use of their facilities for our meetings. If you are interested in being a Gold Star or Platinum Supporter contact any Chapter Officer for details. You'll have a business card size ad in the State A.B.A.T.E. newsletter every month which reaches over 15,000 readers.

June Adopt-A-Highway

We had another successful clean up on June 13. Clean up only took one hour and then we had some great chicken and broccoli casserole and barbecued ham sandwiches to eat afterward. And of course there were those great pies for dessert. Maitland Lane Free Methodist Church has been providing the workers with great meals after each clean up since last year. The food alone is with coming and helping out. Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping your community and keeping the roads safer for motorcyclists. It is amazing how much stuff you find along the side of the road, many of which can become dangerous projectiles when a vehicle runs over them. If you have not joined us for these clean ups you should join us for our next scheduled one in August. Hope to see you there, and thank you to those who have participated.

Christmas Party and Pool Shoot

Our Christmas Party on December 5 at the Burg Bar was a blast. The food catered by Kathy and the girls was terrific and plentiful. And we had eleven people in our Pool Shoot. The top five places went to the following: 1st - John Heasley, 2nd - Bo Barker, 3rd - Tina Mollenkopf, 4th - Tim McCurley, and 5th - Aaron Miller. Congratulations to these folks and good luck to all of you at the District Pool Shoot. If you missed it you really did miss a great time!

2009 Adopt-A-Highway Clean Ups

Well we had another successful year of road cleaning. Our Chapter has been actively cleaning a stretch of road that we adopted along Route 18 in New Castle, Pennsylvania. We had three days throughout 2009 on which we cleaned up all kinds of debris and we did it in all types of weather. Plus we have been blessed with the kindness of the Maitland Lane Free Methodist Church whose members provided our members with great food to eat after each clean up. We really appreciate their offer and the few extra hands they also provided to help with the road side cleaning. This activity is a very worthwhile cause as it makes our roads safer for all motorists and provides our Chapter with an opportunity to be involved in our community. Not to mention it gets our name permanently posted on the Penn DOT Adopt A Highway signs for all to see every day of the year. Be sure to check out the pictures on our picture page.

District II Party - August, 2009

The local Chapters in District II had a party for the District II members at Mike and Faith Irelands place. Those attending had such a great time they decided to do it again next year. There was great food and plenty of fun. You can see some of the fun on the photo page for the party by clicking the link below.

Thunder In The Burg - July 2009

We had another fun time at the annual Thunder In The Burg even though the weather did not cooperate with us at all. Those who braved the rain still had a lot of fun listening to the bands, dunking those in the dunking booth, getting massages, having photos of their bikes professionally taken, getting airbrushed items, and eating great food. If you missed it come next year when we hope the weather will be alot better. Check out our pictures to see the fun.

Proclamation Run - May, 2009

Our Annual Proclamation Run was a success and for once the rain held off. We left from the Burg Bar in West Pittsburg, PA and were escorted by the New Castle Police Department to the Lawrence County Courthouse. After arriving Commissioner DeBlasio presented our Chapter with a declaration from the Lawrence County Commissioners declaring May as Motorcycle Safety Month in Lawrence County. Afterward, some of us rode on out to the Garden Gate for a buffet they were kind enought to set up for our group and had good food and conversation. We chose the Garden Gate as they are a supporter of A.B.A.T.E. Remember to always support those who support us. Be sure to

Visit With Our Veterans
February 15, 2009

We had the privilege of visiting with many of our Veterans at the
VA Hospital in Butler Pennsylvania. Music was provided by the
Thistle and Lion Highlanders bagpipe group and cookies and
cake were also provided to the veterans. We were honored to
meet such heroes and plan to visit with them again this year if possible.

Chapter Patches

We finally got our Chapter Patches in and they're great.
If you come to a meeting you get your first one for free.
If you want a patch without coming to a meeting or if you
wish to buy additional patches they are just $5.00 each.

Collection For Our Veterans

Our Chapter is collecting items to give to our veterans in the
Butler Veterans Hospital. We are collecting the items at our monthly
Chapter meetings and the items are being delivered and dispersed to our veterans as needed. Examples of items to donate are shampoo, soap, disposable razors, socks, sweatpants, microwave popcorn, magazines (hunting, fishing, motorcycle, etc.), books, and pajamas. Many of these veterans do not have family to provide these types of items to them so let's show them our appreciation for their service to our country and their willingness to fight for our freedom by providing these items to them. Also, we will be going down to visit with the veterans on February 15, 2009. Please check back for more details and click the button below for the list of items we are collecting.

Fun Run and Chicken Dinner Benefit - October 2008

The Benefit for Wild Bill's sister, Ronalyn Eppinger, was a great success thanks to all who attended and those who worked so hard behind the scenes. Everyone had a great time, the weather was terrific, the food was fantastic, and the ride enjoyed by all. Don't forget to check out the pictures.

Adopt A Highway Clean Up
Sept. 14, 2008

Our members again put on the gloves, grabbed the garbage bags, and headed out to clean our designated stretch of roadway on Wilmington Road (State Route 18) from Clen Moore Blvd. to Maitland Lane on September 14, 2008. We had beautiful weather and again managed to do the job in just one hour. We even had a contest for finding the most unique item. Although we are not sure who the winner was, among the unique items found were winter ear muffs, a fake finger nail painted bright pink, and silverware. Dixie even found some money. Thanks to all who helped and we hope to see the rest of you at the next clean up in November.
